FAQs

When should I treat asphalt shingles?

Most asphalt roofs show some signs of drying out between 6 and 10 years of age, depending on region and intensity of the Sun’s UV rays.

What are the signs my roof is drying out?

When the shingles’ protective top layer of granule coating begins shedding off into the gutters. This coating functions as a sort of “sunscreen” for your shingles. The oil contained within the shingles is essential for maintaining this coating, but as it dries out, the shingles will start to become brittle and crack.

Black stains and streaking on the shingles is another sign that the roof is aging. Most roofs with staining are shedding the protective top coating to varying degrees. Note: Staining does not harm the roof and is only an aesthetic issue.

Is the application safe?

Yes. The product Roof Rejuvenate uses is ECO-Friendly and 100% safe for people, pets, property, and the environment, because it’s an all-natural food-grade product. Any overspray is rinsed away with a hose or rain.

What does the 5 year limited warranty cover?

Roof Rejuvenate proudly warrants that the treated asphalt shingles will perform as originally designed and warranted by the shingle manufacturer for a period of at least five (5) years from the date of your treatment.

This is not a warranty against leaks from faulty installation or other damage sustained by the roof (hail, high winds). However, if under normal operating & weather conditions the treated shingles lose their proper operating flexibility, granular adhesion characteristics, or structural integrity or performance, Roof Rejuvenate USA will retreat all affected areas on a simple prorated basis (over 60-month warranty period).

What are the weather requirements?

Temperature: It must be above +5 degrees for application.
Rain: Quickly penetrates the shingle’s top layer and begins soaking in typically 1 hour. There is no need for concern about it being washed away by the rain once it has been absorbed by the shingles.

Does treatment change the appearance of my roof?

Will bring your shingles back closer to their original color. Most shingles lighten in color as the oil drys out. This natural oil resaturates your shingles, which helps to restore their color.

What will my insurance company say?

It really depends on the insurance company, most agree if the shingles can be maintained it saves them and homeowners money in the long run. This process resaturates shingles so they are flexible and hold the the little rock granule in place. Any inspector would see a rejuvenated shingle and see that it performs like new, its holding the rock granule in place, is flexible and not curling up at the edges.

What roof types are suitable for rejuvenation?

Rejuvenation is ideal for asphalt shingle roofs showing early signs of wear-typically 8-15 years old. It’s not suitable for flat membrane roofs, metal, cedar shake, or tile.

Can rejuvenation be applied in winter?

Yes – if daytime temperatures stay above 4-5o C and there’s no rain forecast during application. Ideal months in Canada, are late spring through early fall.

How long does the rejuvenation process take?

Most roofs take 1– 2 hours to complete. Full effects (like color restoration and reduced granule loss) become noticeable within a couple of hours once the oils penetrate and settle.

What safety precautions are taken during application?

Roof Rejuvenate’s formula is 96% USDA-certified bio-based oil—non-toxic, and safe for people, pets, and plants. Applicators manage overspray by pre-wetting plants and nearby surfaces to prevent staining.

Will the roof look different afterward?

Yes—a darker, “like-new” appearance is expected as the oils rejuvenate color. Over time (~1–2 years), the tone fades naturally but protection remains.

How many years does it actually add to my roof’s life?

Single treatments typically add 5-10 years, depending on roof age, climate, and maintenance habits.

Is there a warranty?

Yes—a 5-year prorated (and transferable) warranty is standard. Roof Rejuvenate guarantees improved flexibility and granule adhesion, helping shingles last an additional 5 to 10 years beyond their expected lifespan. However, for older roofs, if the shingles show signs of significant aging—such as cracking or curling—we may not be able to offer the warranty. The good news is that this warranty is transferable to the next homeowner.

What if moss or algae are present?

Moss/algae could be cleaned first. The treatment smothers & kills moss and algae growth, making the shingles less hospitable to regrowth—any dead moss typically washes off during rain.

How do I know when it’s time?

Watch for granules in gutters, brittle edges, slight curling, or visible fading. If your shingles are 8–15 years old, it’s an excellent time to treat before more damage sets in.

What happens if it rains after treatment?

Rain within 30–45 minutes of application can reduce effectiveness. After that window, shingles absorb enough oil—light rain is fine, but heavy downpours should be avoided for the full 72-hour curing period.
